Great Seating Ideas For Small Gardens

Let’s face it, what is the point of having a garden if you can’t sit down to enjoy it?

Putting seating into a large garden is easy, of course, but things get a little trickier if you only have a small space.

This guide should point you in the right direction, and help you make the right decisions for an uncluttered, comfortable small garden.

Planning

Think about what you want from your garden. Is it a simple retreat, or do you plan on entertaining guests? If you do, think realistically about how many people you can fit in your garden. The smaller it is, the less furniture you are going to have in there without it becoming cluttered. It might be worth planning a more intimate environment and keep guest numbers to a minimum.

The Garden Bench

The humble garden bench has enough room for three to four people to sit on it. It’s the perfect first step to getting seating in a small garden. They are slim, long, and hardy enough to withstand harsher weather conditions. Treat them before you install them, and they will last even longer.

Corner Sofa

If you can afford to get a corner unit built by a carpenter, you will be able to use your space very nicely indeed. You could also ask them to include storage solutions for tidying things away after you have had guests. If you can’t afford it, there are other options. Take some measurements and look into getting some cheap rattan garden furniture as an alternative.

Use Your Walls

If you have a walled garden, then why not use it? Every last inch of it can be used to create seating, either by installing wood or building in concrete seating. It will last a very long time and only needs a few cushions in the summer for a comfortable seat.

Use Boulders

If you are worried that your garden’s design will be ruined by seating, think about using boulders as a feature. Check with your local stonemason and ask them to keep an eye out for anything you can use. It is a simple technique and can give you a lot of seating without taking anything away from the garden landscape.

Raised Levels

A good way of tackling a very small garden is to vary the levels. Wooden beds can then become simple seating, and you will have a chance to get creative. Different levels will give you entirely new ways of looking at your garden and using the space. And they look fantastic!

Go Up

If you are tight on space, then why not think about buying several tall garden units? You can then put your plants on them and surround yourself in greenery and colour while having plenty of space in the central areas for furniture. It’s a simple technique, but very effective. Perfect for making the most of your garden space.

And there we have it. Hopefully, we have planted a few ideas that will bud into a successful small garden. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a big space; any garden can be a joy to sit in. Let us know how you get on!
