Crassula ovata (aka Jade plant, friendship tree, lucky plant, money plant or money tree) holds prize of place in many collections. It is a popular plant for good reasons, once you get one you will want to share it with all your friends.
The fact that it is so easy to propagate using either a stem or leaf cuttings makes sharing the Jade plant a must.
If you want the plant to grow into a nice tree-like structure make sure to prune the lower leaves.
It is possible to grow a Jade plant to have a thick stem and to reach many feet tall.
Give the plant lots of light, not too much water (though enough for good growth), and a pot with room for the roots to grow.
Varieties
As well as the standard full size Jade plant, there are more than a few different varieties of Crassula Ovata.
One of the most common varieties is the Gollum/Hobbit variety, which has unusual coral like leaves.
Another variety is the tri-colour variegatum, which has streaks of colour through the leaves.
Our favourite is Crassula Ovata Hummel’s Sunset, which has bright yellow flourishes of colour.
