Ultra Violet: Pantone 2018 Colour Of The Year

Ultra Violet: Pantone 2018 Colour Of The Year

Ultra violet, is a vibrant and opulent colour that brings the feel of luxury and creativity into our homes.

Pantone believe ultra violet to not only be the trending colour of the year, but a choice of colour that speaks to many, especially in this day and age.

“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”– Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

The colour violet can inspire, empower, and aid in spirituality. Adding a touch of violet to your home or indulging fully is a great way to change the feel of a room, and benefits us on a personal level too.

There is a lot to be said about the way colour effects our moods, and therefore our day to day lives. If you love the idea of decorating your home depending on the influence colours have on our psyche, then the psychology of colour would be a great place to start.

We’ve put together a collection of our favourite violet pieces to help inspire and encourage you to indulge in this majestic colour.

Bold Beautiful Interiors

Homes with interiors combining violet, teal, green and gold decor could easily be mistaken for luxury homes, as it adds such a depth and richness to each room.

Although for some the jewel like tones are a touch too luxurious for a shared family room, so why not try adding it to your bedroom or bathroom instead, and turn them into your own private boudoir.

To break up the violet, which for some could be a very dominating colour within a room, use metallic accessories, large mirrors, glass chandeliers and other reflective surfaces, to help project the light around the room.

This is a great tip for adding light, and at the same time compliments the rich tones perfectly.

Adventurous Garden Design

Don’t feel you have to restrict colour to the interior of your home. Gardens can be full of colour too, from the obvious inclusion of flowers, to a daring statement wall.

Although the Royal Violet Aubrieta Deltoidea from ManoMano may be an ‘obvious’ way to include colour, they are nevertheless stunning and a safe option if you’re looking to gently dip your toes into the world of violet.

As with interior design, painting areas within your home is only one of a myriad of ways to embrace violet. It’s easy to forget that you can add everything you enjoy inside your home outside, from flooring to furniture.

Why not add a bit of colour to your garden floor, as you would your indoor carpets and rugs, or add colour via your sun loungers as you would your sofa.

Then sit back and watch how not only the violet items pop, but how the colour really brings out the greenery amongst the garden too.

 Creative Upclycling

If you’re feeling defeated in your search for that extra special violet piece for your home, as what’s available online or on the high street isn’t quite what you’re looking for – pick up a brush and start upcycling!

The great part about upcycling is that not only will you have an original design, but you’ll be able to sand it down and repaint it should you wish to update the piece.

I hope we’ve filled you with inspiration on your journey to embracing ultra violet, and we’d love to hear of your great finds in the comment section below.
